Thirteen books with one visual language.

Belasé legendy tells Slovan’s history through the people who shaped the club. I designed all thirteen books in the 2015–2022 series. Each brought a different story and different archival material; the visual concept had to connect them without constraining them. The 2016 Peter Dubovský volume is a distinctive example: a larger hardback format with around 250 photographs across eleven chapters.

A rhythm shaped by the story

Interior design combined typesetting, photo selection and retouching with editorial corrections. Images were moved to match the game or period discussed in the text. Pull quotes were reviewed to avoid repeating passages already featured at the start of a chapter.

Each volume builds on shared rules

The series grew over seven years. Covers, typography and imagery needed a firm foundation with room for very different source material. Every new volume had to sit beside its predecessors, whether built on a sparse archive or a career rich in photographs. Even the larger Dubovský format had to belong to that family.

From the cover to print-ready files

The cover was needed ahead of the finished interior so promotion could begin. Work followed connected stages: cover design, typesetting and retouching, corrections and final print preparation.

WHAT THE WORK ENABLES

The result is a thirteen-book series that holds together on the shelf and in the details of each page. From Michal Vičan through Peter Dubovský to Ivan Chodák, the concept remains recognisable while typesetting and photography give each story room.
